Background & Philosophy
I received by certification from the Kushi Institute in Becket, MA. This was a holistic study program centered on mind/body/spirit connections. Alternative health care perspective were studied. One of the principles I teach is to get the best life supported by the foods we eat. I believe that healing is manifested on many levels. I also believe there is an innate ability within us all that is capable of healing all these various levels. The body's health is important, but so too, is the health and wellness of our emotional and spiritual beings. It is in combining these various body/mind/spirit aspects of health care that I offer a variety of techniques that make this hands-on approach to healing eclectic. I am available for lectures or consults. For more information, please feel free to contact me.
What is macrobiotics?
- Macro means long or great. Biotic means life.
- Macrobiotics is a holistic approach to health and sickness. It's a different way of looking at food and health. The diet is about prevention or relief of disease. It is an alkalizing way of eating. Good health is the key to long life and vitality.
- Macrobiotic way of eating is not a set diet that applies rigidly to everyone, but a flexible dietary approach that differs according to climate, personal need and condition of health.
- The diet provides endless variety and choice to prepare a healthy, delicious, food suited to your well being. Macrobiotics is about eating foods in whole form, instead of refined, processed, chemically grown, or artificially produced foods.
- Recommendations are foods high in natural fibers, organically grown vegetables, eating less fat, no saturated fat and no meat.
- Overall, the macrobiotic diet consists of a variety of whole grains, land and sea vegetables, beans, some fish, fruit, nuts and seeds.

Long before there were blood tests and X-ray machines and nutrient compositions of foods, traditional peoples developed an understanding of healing foods and health. Also, they placed tremendous emphasis on preventing serious illness through the use of correct diet and life conditions.

Food as energy!
The practice of macrobiotics is based on the understanding of food as energy. By understanding food as energy, we see that it affects not only our physical condition, but our mental and emotional state as well. I believe eating is probably the most intimate encounter we will have on Earth, because the food we eat becomes part of us. Food can create wellness or illness in our bodies. We are what we eat. I used to live to eat, now I eat to live.
What happens when your body is too acidic?
Nutritional research links high acidity to arthritis, high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, allergies, and osteoporosis, just to name a few. From the common cold to cancer, disease thrives in an acid state. Macrobiotics is an alkalizing way of eating.
